Far from focusing on fixing the economic problems of this country, Republicans are trying to take advantage of our suffering. My business is promoting democracy and governance overseas under the auspices of the American government. In the last 8 years, I have seen our credibility for doing this type of work wane considerably. Americans who don’t travel have no idea what a hypocritical laughing stock we have become. We trample on the Constitution at the same time we preach the rule of law abroad. And now I can just envision my discussions with overseas colleagues in the event of a McCain-Palin win. It will go something like this. Foreign Colleague: “Let me get this straight, you elected a President who graduated 494 in a class of 499 and a Vice President who only obtained a passport last year over a competitor who graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law even though you knew that they represent a party that presided over the worst economic meltdown in years and then even had the nerve to exploit the suffering of the victims of that meltdown by attempting to disqualify them from voting because they lost their houses (see the Michigan Messenger http://www.michiganmessenger.com/4463/obama-campaign-files-suit-over-foreclosure-lists) – and you call yourselves the greatest country in the world and a democracy? – Wow!” Me: “Yes.”
All I can say is that international airports in this country should stock up on paper bags since if McCain wins, most of us leaving the country will want to wear them over our heads.
